The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) is the federal government's recruiting commission. It fills posts in ministries, divisions and attached departments — from Inspectors and Assistant Directors to Lecturers, doctors and engineers — mainly through its Consolidated Advertisements, published several times a year on fpsc.gov.pk.
How FPSC recruitment works
Each consolidated advertisement lists dozens of cases (posts). You apply for a specific case number, so note the case number of your post from the advertisement — you will use it in the form, in correspondence, and when checking results. Applications are online only; FPSC does not accept forms by post for these posts.
Applying online, step by step
- Open fpsc.gov.pk, register an account, and complete your profile with education and experience exactly as your documents show
- Select the case (post) you are applying for and fill the application before the closing date in the advertisement
- Deposit the application fee — the fee varies by the scale of the post and is printed in the advertisement; deposit it at the designated bank branches (National Bank / State Bank) and keep the original challan, because it is demanded later
- Note that FPSC allows one editing opportunity for the submitted online application before the closing date — use it if you spot an error; afterwards the information is treated as final
The test stages
For most posts FPSC first holds a screening test (MCQs). Candidates who qualify are called for the next stage, which for many posts is a descriptive (written) examination, followed by document scrutiny and an interview by the Commission. Merit is then compiled from the written examinations and interview under the FPSC rules for the post.
Carrying a mobile phone or electronic device into an FPSC test hall is treated extremely seriously — it leads to disqualification and can bar you from future FPSC examinations. Leave it outside, without exception.
Documents you will be asked for
At the scrutiny stage FPSC calls for your documents, typically: educational certificates and degrees with transcripts, CNIC, domicile certificate matching the quota you claimed, two photographs, the original fee challan, an experience certificate where the post requires experience, and a Departmental Permission Certificate if you are already in government service. A foreign degree needs an HEC equivalence certificate.
Timelines and expectations
FPSC cycles are long — several months from advertisement to final recommendation is normal. Keep your application ID safe, keep checking the FPSC website (not social media pages) for test schedules, admission certificates and results, and do not resign from any current job until you hold the appointment letter.
